Baby, let the games begin!

Surprisingly, most of the people I’ve talked to don’t like this song — it’s one of my favorites on Reputation and never fails to put me in a good mood. Maybe I’m a fan because I think the rap parts all sound like singing, so I don’t have to think about Taylor Swift rapping.

I personally like to play this song at a high volume when I’m about to take a test, go on a date, or tackle a tough programming exercise, because “… Ready For It?” is the musical equivalent of looking someone straight in the eye and asking them to try you.

In the Middle of the Night

Part love song and part challenge, “… Ready For It?” is both about Taylor Swift confidently planning to seduce British actor Joe Alwyn (spoiler: she’s successful in doing so), and about Taylor Swift having the last word with the media et al about her tarnished reputation.

To be honest, I thought it was just a love song until the music video came out — based on the lyrics, I thought that she would’ve shot something involving the beach, simple-yet-gorgeous dresses, and maybe a fancy boat or two. Instead, she goes Blade Runner and has an evil cyborg version of herself (representative of her public image?) fighting her actual self. In the end, Evil Cyborg Taylor’s, um, face explodes as she stands on a rusty platform that reads “THEY’RE BURNING ALL THE WITCHES.” Actual Taylor watches with a satisfied expression.

It’s deeper than I expected it to be. Unexpected but pleasantly surprising.

The Shoot

I originally wanted to shoot this look on the beach and give it an actual island breeze-and-lights-down-low vibe, but went with this giant snake-tastic tree instead. Those roots are actually much taller than they look in the photos. I made good use of my elementary-school jungle gym climbing/balancing to get up there, and rediscovered my love of climbing trees. I’ve ascended many more since these pictures were taken!
