I frequent the Buffalo Exchange on Haight Street because it’s full of reasonably-priced vintage clothing.
(Seriously, what’s with old clothes being so expensive, anyway?)
There’s a huge rack of dresses near the back that I browse through every time I go in. One search turned up this white shift dress with pink lemons on it. It originally had huge sleeves that made it look like a hospital gown, so I cut them off and sewed up the raw edges. I love how this dress is modest and playful all at once; it makes me feel like I’m in a 1950s Lilly Pulitzer ad every time I wear it.
There were a lot of fucked up things going on in the 1950s, but aesthetics wasn’t one of them. ♚
