Not gonna lie, I’m still dreaming about New Orleans cuisine.
In addition to experiencing a bunch of cool places, I got the chance to try some delicious local dishes. Here are some of my favorite places that we hit up. If I sound like a peppy white girl in this post, it’s because all of this food was legitimately delicious and I struggled with coming up with different ways to say “I stuffed my face at every single establishment I went to.”
Dat Dog specializes in unique hot dogs with tons of toppings to choose from. A lot of college students hang out there, and their drink menu isn’t bad either.
My friend and I tried Old Fashioneds for the first time (it may or may not have been because of that one Taylor Swift song).
I tried the gator hot dog with bacon on top. It tasted pretty similar to other meat I’ve eaten; I had to constantly remind myself that I wasn’t eating a normal hot dog.
The Camellia Grill is an old-fashioned Southern diner that opened in 1946, and my catfish obsession was born here. We went twice during the trip.
Located in a historic French Quarter courtyard, Cafe Amelie had so much old-fashioned elegant ambiance.
I rediscovered my affinity for Moscow Mules here …
… and had more catfish.
We ate outside, but the inside dining areas were also gorgeous:
Daiquiris & Hand Grenades
My favorite drinks are ICEEs, so it’s not surprising that I also love frozen alcoholic slushies. The daiquiris and hand grenades were delicious, and I had way too many …
Hand grenades are a drink special to New Orleans. They’re made with gin, grain alcohol, melon liqueur, rum, and vodka … and yeah, that’s as alcoholic as it sounds, and no, you can’t taste any of it in the drink. Which brings me to …
… This restaurant was fancy, but quite honestly, we were quite out of it thanks to the hand grenades by the time we got here, and I don’t remember much of this experience. It was a pretty restaurant though!
We got brunch at Wayfare, and while I didn’t get anything out of the ordinary, it’s always nice to know that I can get a mimosa wherever I’m at 😛
Royal House Oyster Bar
This was my favorite place in New Orleans! I don’t say that lightly. We sat upstairs on the balcony and enjoyed people watching everyone below.
I’m so fucking hungry now. One day I’ll be back … ♚
